The look behind… German Federation Cup for teams

German Minigolfsport Federation (DMV) organizes a club trophy for teams. The winning team is German cup Champion. This tournament is played as knock out system and runs over three years.

First year teams are playing knock out in their regions. Second year teams are playing nationwide.
Third year the best 4 teams playing at Easter a final four tournament. The winner of this tournament is German cup winner. The final four tournament always is played in DMV Minigolf sport center Bad Münder on felt and eternit.

At the beginning all teams are drawn by lottery. The first drawn team has a home match, which is of course a advantage. But it’s not that the best players of the club are playing – no – any participating team has to have players from 3 different categories (for example men, women, juniors… or of course seniors). This makes it very interesting because it shows an average of the whole club. It’s not that the team with the best men automatically has good chances to win the cup. No, the team with a good average of members has an advantage. Five players are in the team (three different categories) a sixth player is substitute.
Any cup match will be played over three rounds. The better player after three rounds gets two points 2-0 and so on with the other players (a tie is 1-1). At least there are 10 points to award. Also very interesting is, that the ranking of the players inside their teams is unknown. Player number one can be a man and player number one of the other team can be a woman…

In November there has been an interesting cup match in Neheim-Hüsten. Home team Neheim-Hüsten (Third league) played against several time German Champion MGC Dormagen-Brechten (Bundesliga-First league). Not less than 6 former or actual national team players played that knock out. Amongst others Robin Hettrich Youth World Champion 2010 or Vanessa Peuker (third place Youth European Championships 2011). Additional at all 6 former or actual German Champions. A really high class field with 12 players at all.
MSK Neheim Hüsten used their home advantage and won at least with 8:2 against the big favorite from Dormagen-Brechten. Sometimes David really beats Goliath.

See some new and some old players, you might be remembered of the good old times…
